*** First up: Community Show at The Carrack, the opening reception during Third Friday in Durham on January 19, 2018, 6-9pm. The exhibition will remain on view through February 10. One piece each from the whole community – can’t wait to see what this diverse show will contain!! Thanks to the incredible Laura Ritchie and her team for this opportunity – to show and to see! (Note: The Carrack Modern Art is located at the Torus Building in the Golden Belt Arts District, at 947 East Main St.)
*** (! Show EXTENDED until Dec.10) I am most excited to have 2 of my photos selected for inclusion in the 2017 Click! Photography Festival Juried Exhibition, “Resist.” (October=Photography) Thanks to Juror Michael Pannier, the founder and director of the SE Center for Photography in Greenville, SC, for selecting my two pieces out of 154 to be part of the final 45 displayed. You can see the show at a new location: Watts Grocery in Durham is opening an event space, and the Click! show will decorate the gallery walls. The show will hang from October 1 – November 30, and there will be a reception 6-9pm on Third Friday October 20. (My 2 pieces: “Lonescape I” and “Splash”). Make sure to check out the calendar of wonderful events scheduled to be part of the Click! Festival this year, and I hope to see you there! (Governor Roy Cooper proclaimed October to be “Photography Month” in NC!)
*** The Duke Health Employee Art Show is now showing at the Mars Galleries at the Duke Hospital (Erwin Road in Durham NC). These galleries are located in the hall between Duke Medicine Pavilion and Duke North. The show will be displayed between July 27 and September 20, 2017. Look for my photograph “Flight” !
*** The Carrack is having their 6th Anniversary Community Show, with the Third Friday reception in Durham on June 16, 2017, 6-9pm. Laura Ritchie and her team have organized another show where everyone may enter one piece, and that will include mine! The variety of media and styles is remarkable – check it out while it is up from June 8-23. (Note: The Carrack Modern Art moved to the Torus Building in the Golden Belt Arts District last year, at 947 East Main St.) (My piece: “Motorco Electric”)
*** It’s time for The 5th Annual Will Grossman Memorial Photo Competition at Through This Lens in downtown Durham. This will be the final year of the Competition and I hope you will be able to see it while it is up: April 8 – May 13. And you can join in the Opening Reception to see the results of the judging on Sat. April 8 from 5-7 pm. I will have three pieces on display, and the breadth of the entries is exceptional, so make sure to stop in while the show is running. Hope to see you on the 8th! Huge thanks to Will Grossman’s family for supporting this show and enriching the photography scene in Durham.
*** The Durham Art Guild’s 2017 Members’ Showcase will be on display from April 8 – June 10 at the downtown Durham Arts Council Building. The Receptions will be on two Third Fridays, April 21 and May 19, from 5-8pm. Each member may submit one piece to the show, and a Peoples’ Choice Award will be given. Lots of great art created with all media – make sure to see it!
*** The 22nd Annual Juried Art Competition of the Fine Arts League of Cary (FALC) will be on display March 8 through April 15th at the Page-Walker Art and History Center in Cary, NC. A reception and awards ceremony will be held on March 31 from 6-9 pm (coincides with Final Friday Events in Cary.) Thanks to juror Bob Rankin for choosing my photo to be in the show.

*** “Resolutions 2017” the annual Juried Exhibition by The Hillsborough Gallery of Arts in Hillsborough NC will be displayed from January 4th – Jan. 22nd. Opening Reception is on Friday Jan. 13, 2017 from 6-9pm. The show includes one of my images chosen from statewide submissions. Juror Dr. Larry Wheeler, Director of the NC Museum of Art in Raleigh, will talk briefly and award prizes around 7:00. See the Gallery’s site for general hours as well. *** The 62nd Annual Juried Exhibition of the Durham Art Guild Show will be on display Aug.19 – Oct. 15 at the Durham Arts Council Building in Durham. Public Receptions will be on Third Fridays in both August (29th) and September (16th) from 5-7pm. Thanks to Juror Jennifer Sudul Edwards, Curator of the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, for selecting one of my photographs to display. There will be plenty of fabulous art to take in, with 50 artists and 76 works in the show. Hope to see you there!
*** Contemporary Art Museum in Raleigh (CAM) presents “CAMstellation”, an exhibition celebrating artists of all ages in our community. CAMstellation runs from July 1 – September 4, 2016 and includes an Artists’ Reception, two Free First Fridays, a PNC Free Family Sundae, artist talks and other related programming. I have one piece displayed there – a canvas version of “Arbor Ardor” – along with LOTS of other very cool art.
*** The Carrack is turning 5! To celebrate they are having a Community Show, with the opening reception during Third Friday June 17, 6-9pm. The show closes with a Moving Party on Sat. June 25th (5:00-6:30), followed by a parade up Main St. to their new home and a Grand Opening Party. Last chance to see their current gallery at 111 W Parrish St. in Durham. Each artist submits one piece; let me know when you find mine! (“Disconnect”)
*** The 2016 Members’ Showcase has just opened at the Durham Art Guild. Show is on display April 9- June 11 at the Durham Arts Council Building in Durham. The Receptions will be on April 15 and during Third Friday May 20 from 5-7pm. You can vote for the Peoples’ Choice Award – maybe that will be my piece!
*** Duke 37th Employee Art Show will begin March 4 and stay up until May 2. Co-sponsored by The National Arts Program. Art of many styles and media will be displayed through the Duke Hospital corridors, including one of mine, “Swish.”
*** Tipping Paint Gallery in Raleigh has its “Spring Forward” Juried Show in March. Opening reception is March 4 from 6-9pm, and runs through to March 26. Artist Rick Bennett is the juror who chose my picture to include in the exhibition; thanks, Rick!

*** Pleiades Gallery will be presenting “Durham Under Development,” a juried fine art show that is a partnership between Pleiades Gallery and Aaron Mandel. Exhibition dates: February 11-March 6, 2016. Reception: Third Friday Reception on Feb. 19 from 6-9. AND a Meet-and-Greet Reception with local business leaders and community activists on Saturday, February 27 from 6-8 pm, for you to join the discussion. A second meeting will be on Sat. Mar. 5 from 1-3 pm. One of my images was accepted in this show. Thanks to jurors Aaron Mandel, Carter Cue, Josh Parker, and the Pleiades staff.

*** Prizes! I am honored that both images displayed in the Will Grossman Memorial Contest at Through This Lens gallery have won awards, one as Second Place, the other as Honorable Mention.
